What are some crashes where a car got airborne after contact with the side of a car, but not front end t-boning

Best examples I had were Byron today, Preece at the 500, Byron at Watkins Glen, Michael Waltrip 2002 Busch Texas race, Trey Hutchins III getting some air after contact with Johnny Sauter, and Austin Dillon 2015. This one doesn’t count as it isn’t a car going forwards into the side of another, but a car sliding up. There was also a wreck I remember seeing on a YouTube video at Daytona where a 0 car had either gotten squeezed into the wall out of 4 or got hit in the side and flipped, but I couldn’t find it submitted by /u/NormBenningisdagoat [link] [comments]

Does Nascar take a back seat during football season??

I am loyal to Nascar in a sense. I grew up around the track of Dover and moved to Daytona so I would have access to three tracks (( new smyrna speedway volusia speedway and of course the most famous 2.5 miler of them all)) but I find I do not watch Nascar on TV during football season which is silly because the chase is in full swing!! Do not get me wrong..you will still find me at volusia and new smyrna on Saturday nights but sides Talladega and the final race of the year, I find myself tuning out Nascar races once college football and NFL start. New(ish) fan to the sport; Has the discourse amongst fans always been this hostile?

I started watching around 2015 when Kyle Busch won the championship. I’ve always seen the occasional smack talk to other fans about their favorite teams or drivers, and even to NASCAR as an organization itself. But now with the sport changing the playoff format and the negativity around the Next Gen car, I see nothing but arguments on other sites and apps debating which side of the isle is better. NASCAR 25 is here!

Downloaded the Gold Edition in order to get the early access. Ten minutes in and it feels like a winner. Went to Darlington in an Xfinity car and was immediately fighting to keep out of the wall, was trying different lines and setups to find the right balance, it was rewarding and also difficult to string good laps together. Watched the Unrivaled Earnhardt vs Gordon documentary last night for the first time.

I will say I’m not really a long time, die hard fan of NASCAR. I watched and followed very casually for a lot of years, and when Jeff Gordon was just coming up is when I started paying more attention. And though I never considered myself a true Dale fan-admittedly Gordon was who really sparked my interest at the time-I thoroughly enjoyed the rivalry. My interest has come and gone over the years since. But I really enjoyed the show. I got the sense that it was really like an identity-demographic almost sort of thing. Dale seemed to have fans that were more classical good ol boy, southern “redneck” OG sorts. And Gordon seemed to capture kind of anyone not that? But lacking the historical knowledge-I’d be willing to bet a fair sum of money that those two dude were good friends-at least off the track. Did you know that: -For 2018, initial plans were for Christopher Bell to take Erik Jones seat in the 77. Jones was moving from Furniture Row to Gibbs in the 20 car, replacing Matt Kenseth. But the infamous crash between Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr happened at Indianapolis that August, starting the downfall in the relationship between Joe Gibbs and Barney Visser. Instead, Furniture Row would shut down their 2nd team for 2018 after just one season, and Bell would go full time in the 20 Xfinity car before finally jumping to Cup full time in 2020 for Leavine Family Racing (ironically using many old parts that FRR used in their time). Part of the JGR-FRR alliance contract stated that once done with the parts, any part of the car with a JGR part number had to go back to Gibbs. Many of those parts that were still good end up being sold to LFR when they switched to Toyota in 2019. LFR itself would only last until the end of 2020 when the team’s assets were sold to Spire Motorsports, after COVID financially hit the team hard. -On top of that, FRR apparently had been making plans to switch to Chevy, with a Hendrick alliance. Everyone on the team was on board with it including MTJ and Cole Pearn, but Toyota would not let go of Truex, eventually leading to Furniture Row to forever stay under the Toyota banner. -That day at Indianapolis in 2017 may have been the beginning of the end for FRR. Some from the team say that Joe Gibbs was so livid that he was getting beat by his own equipment, he kept raising the costs for Furniture Row until it was simply too much, causing the Denver, CO based team to shut its doors at the end of 2018. submitted by /u/Equivalent_Dish_1990 [link] [comments]

I’m not particularly an SVG fan. I’m certainly not a hater. He seems like a cool guy. However you feel about him, let’s appreciate what the guy is doing. It’s not easy to win at the Cup level. I’ve been doing some research lately into 1970s NASCAR, and I keep seeing references to the “Mod Squad.” They were running modified races on big ovals, including Daytona and Charlotte, which sounds insane. I've been lately more excited for Xfinity races than Cup

Cup races have no doubt a more exciting finish and overall race, but I've been lately more excited for Xfinity races. Its definitely a factor of the car design which is prob my fav from all eras and series. Also the 5 lug wheels and that in my country the races air when its really late and its much easier to stay up late on a saturday than on a sunday when I have school after that (even tho I still watch both races). One BIG factor is Connor Zilisch. He is incredible as a driver and as a person and I cant get enough of that kid (Im a bit younger than him lol) and I wish him an incredible career and at least 7 championships if not more. But Xfinity also has other cool drivers. The sexual tension between Zilisch and Love is unbeatable /j, Allgaier is the cool veteran and also the shenanigans of Bobby Hill are interesting to watch. Then there's Dale jr. and his involvement with Xfinity. I couldn't much watch him in his racing career at the time, but when I think NASCAR the first thing to come to mind is the red bud 8 monte carlo. I think what he's done and still doin' for the sport is unbeatable. His and Kelley's JR motorsports have produced one of the best drivers consistently and they aint stoppin'. I also eat his Dirty Mo media which is always fun to listen to. And I dont think I am the only one enjoying Xfinity, because the viewership numbers are closer than ever to cup i believe. Im also kinda sad Connor will drive cup fulltime next year and drive in O'Reilly's auto parts series just sometimes, but he needs to learn and master the cup car as soon as possible. So I just think Xfinity has some kind things i'd love cup to have, but it doesn't have it no more. Should the crew chiefs be spotlighted more to increase fan relatability and inspire young people?

Since most fans have a hard time relating to most of the drivers nowadays, maybe the crew chiefs should be marketed and spotlighted more. Not every young fan can instantly relate to young drivers purely on age, because many of them were born into wealth and have been racing since they were kids, so they only provide envy. There's so much more to success this sport than just driver performance. It takes a whole team and a smart crew chief and knowledgeable engineering staff to win and get results. Crew chiefs tend to have more modest backgrounds and middle-class upbringings and they got to their important role by working at it. Its much more relatable in my opinion to show younger fans, especially those who are technically minded, that there is a path to Cup series glory that rewards merit rather than money. This could inspire young kids who love building legos or are in stem classes in high school to pursue mechanical engineering and work their way up the ranks to a top team. I would like to recognize the names of new crew chiefs more by hearing their name a bit more back when they were engineers. I was pleasantly surprised to see how close the stats were for all-time wins between active crew chiefs. Its never discussed as much as driver win records but Paul Wolfe has 43, Adam Stevens and Alan Gustafson have 41, Rodney Childers has 40, i think this would be fun to follow. Because I Love NASCAR, I Choose to Believe…

Lord knows there are things about NASCAR that drives me completely bonkers right now and maybe the only reason O’Donnell was on with Jr. today was for damage control and to try cool everyone’s jets, but after hearing this interview, I choose to believe that NASCAR is trying to listen to us and knows they really stubbed their toe. Call me naive, gullible, whatever, but maybe, just maybe, they are committed to a shift back to what hooked all of us 80’s and 90’s kids in the first place. I appreciated O’Donnell’s seemingly genuine answers and NASCAR’s willingness to adjust. Discussion on Stages in NASCAR (inspired by DJD)

After listening to The Dale Jr. Download today, they brought up the discussion about what to do with stages, if anything, with the upcoming new playoff format. Dale said that he feels the consensus is most people don’t like them. My gut says I agree with that thought, but figured let’s see what everybody thinks here. For me personally, I do not like them. I have always sided with the notion of what Carl Edwards said at the beginning of the idea of stages. Stage points I have no problem with, but I hate that they throw a caution to stop the race. What do you think is best to do with stages? Leave them alone? Get rid of stage breaks? Or get rid of them all together? I think this is a fair discussion with the upcoming playoff changes, even though I do not have an idea if this is been discussed by the playoff committee or NASCAR. In speaking out loud further, I think this would help a lot at superspeedways with the fuel mileage savings. NASCAR needs to bring back a full suite of events and TV coverage on Friday to kick off a race weekend.

Some of my favorite childhood memories were coming home from school on a Friday, putting on Speed channel, and settling in for a perfect afternoon of Cup qualifying, and then an evening of Trackside followed by the Truck race. It was the perfect way to kick off and build excitement for the race weekend. And in a pre-social media era, fans needed the introductory Friday TV coverage to catch us up on the storylines for that week and the main news items going into the race weekend. This was the NASCAR product and media coverage at its best. Compelling on-track action, interviews up and down pit road, in the garage area, and even around the track and the motorhomes. And all of that would transition seamlessly into a legitimately funny round-table talk show, and once that was over, a Truck race as a bonus. What would it take to bring this back? I understand that the modern TV landscape probably doesn’t allow for a block of coverage this long, and the current race weekend logistics may not support this format.
